Yuriy Vatkin was born in 1975 in Dnipropetrovsk. In 1977 his family moved to Kharkiv. At a young age, the artist developed an interest in art. This led to the creation of a number of children’s drawings. At the age of fourteen Yuriy met the Kharkiv graphic artist, and excellent teacher Oleksandr Bragin, from whom the artist took private lessons. Two years later (at the age of sixteen), Watkin became a student at the Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute.

Yuriy Vatkin belongs to those artists who are guided by emotions and intuition in their work. He does not chase fashion, nor does he oppose himself to society. He simply likes to materialize his thoughts in works, stimulating the viewer’s visual attention.

Artist Statement

” My paintings convey my states at the time of their creation. The paintings are full of colors, emotions, and lines.
What should fall actually freezes on the canvas, what should not move at all comes to life and unfolds in the space of light, strokes, proportions. I work with the theme of immersion in my own subconscious and try to reveal unconscious feelings and thoughts in my works. I use visually volumetric strokes to convey the main emotional color and mood of the work.

This creative approach is characteristic of a number of my works. My art is inextricably linked with nature and the environment. Creativity allows me to combine a variety of emotions with colors, forming the quintessence of art with feelings.”
