Miguel Oñate was born in Fuentealbilla, Albacete, Spain in 1962. In 1968 his family moved to Mislata, Valencia, Spain where he currently resides.

At a very young age Oñate stood out as a talented artist. While attending art classes, his teachers acknowledged a natural and rare ability to replicate different art styles with no formal training.

Recognizing this exceptional talent, the art teacher recommended he pursue a fine arts education. In 1976 he enrolled in the Labor School of Cheste to commence a rigorous and formal art education. It is during this time that he began to obtain the first artistic recognitions, creating murals and achieving awards. Later Oñate enrolled in the prestigious San Carlos University of Art in Valencia. He graduated at the top of his class with honors in the area of drawing and painting.

Throughout the years, Oñate continued to develop his skills and refine his realistic style. Over time, he expanded the focus of his subjects. One of the characteristics that stands out most is the use of his imagination to create extraordinarily inventive subjects. Oñate’s motivation is driven  by capturing his unique ideas artistically.

A pivotal point in his career was 2011 when he evolved towards a highly personalized style. Surrealist forms were born from his free imagination, combining great fluidity and identity. The transition carried him to new abstractions full of vibrant colors.

Oñate has achieved multiple prestigious awards including the Medal of Honor in the XXIII BMW Painting Prize and the Honorable Mention in the II Painting Contest of the Foundation of Arts and Artists. His art work is displayed in various museums and institutions including the MEAM (Barcelona) and the Infanta Elena museum of Tomelloso (Ciudad Real). Oñate’s works are also featured in numerous private collections around the world and he has held exhibitions throughout Europe.
